The Trevor Volunteer Fire Department is a
non-profit organization. We have
Served the Trevor Area of Salem
Township
since 1949 as it’s Volunteer Fire Department.
The influx of new residents started to change
our area from a rural environment to a municipal environment, where more
services were expected to be provided, in the medical end of
Fire/Rescue. The State of Wisconsin also started to
mandate, but not pay for additional requirements and services. 2003 found us starting to look for more
help from the Town, the State and from each other to meet the new
challenges.
January 2004 we joined with Salem FD, Salem
Twp. Rescue Squad, Wilmot FD and the Town of Salem in a 5 year plan to
create the Town of Salem Fire/Rescue organization. We felt to provide what the community
expected would require a paid staff of professionals to meet the increased
demands, with volunteers filling in the rest of the manpower. Weekday/daytime was the biggest problem,
and volunteers had to earn a living first, and volunteer second, so paid
full timers seemed to be the answer..
We agreed to turn over all equipment owned by
the various departments to the new organization at no immediate lump sum
expense to the Town of Salem, in exchange for a
stipend to be paid to each organization, to compensate for the equipment
turned over. The Town of Salem paid expenses for the
buildings being used to house the equipment. The loss of the Fire Contract Payments
left all the former departments with no source of income, as the
Fire/Rescue tax fees were now the Town of Salem’s to provide emergency
services.
January 1, 2004 through December 31, 2009. all
the departments contributed to turning over control to The Town of Salem Fire/Rescue Fire Chief. Autonomy of each organization had to give
way to the Town Department. We used
the HR (Human Resources) Committee and the Fire/EMS Committee to resolve
issues between the departments and the town as well as to contribute to the
organization of the new Fire/Rescue Dept. by generating rules of
employment, conduct, and procedures for the execution of duties.
January 1, 2010 The Town of Salem
Fire/Rescue became the official emergency service provider to the
town of Salem,
as well as (per agreements with) Paddock
Lake,
and Paris
Township. The Trevor Vol. Fire Dept., Inc. is now a
fraternal organization, who’s members man the Trevor Station of the Town of
Salem
Fire/Rescue organization. Our new role is to support our
membership, assure their safety and to be sure the quality of emergency
service our founders and the generations of our members strived to provide
to the Trevor area of the Town of Salem, is not compromised.
We are also here for non-member residents of our
area, so if you have any questions, comments or complaints about the
Emergency services you are being provided, feel free to contact us.
